Temple Cloud Circus is a “Not for Profit” family run small circus school. Sammy has put in 11 years almost voluntary as the majority of our income is spent on overheads, equipment, and expenses. We have tried to base our hourly rates in comparison to other large scale funded circus schools in the UK. Paying new staff or inexperienced assistant teachers £9-£13ph, We pay our teachers £13-£17ph for standard basic to intermediate circus skill teaching as part of our weekly program. We also pay £23 -£30 per hour for high level specialist skill instruction delivered in specialist monthly workshops not as part of our weekly program. We are offer a pathway from internship to assistant teacher to teacher, this is a new program that we hope will be successful.

Specialist Aerial Skill Workshop Instructors

We have the capacity to offer a specialist skill workshop each month of 3 hours for the basic rate of £70 or £90 depending on the content, as if the content is what we are currently requiring we may offer more. We offer student lead learning so skills that suit our individual students learning program we would value higher . If you have a 3 hour workshop of a specialist skill that you would like to offer at Temple Cloud Circus, please send in the full details of the workshop schedule and structure, along with your insurance and CV. If you have a sequence of specialist skills that could be taught over subsequence workshops, please also include details of this with your enquiry.

Internship


Unpaid, 1-2 days per week of 6 hours shifts at a time for a 12 week term , Or 1 week of 4-5 shifts x 6 hours. Specific hours to be pre arranged prior to starting via email, all internships must be conformed via email in advance, we do ask a admin fee to book in for any internship. We offer internships for an entire week of 4 days in a week or for a whole term.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications for this post. 

  • A keen interest in aerial circus .
  • A desire or interest to learn to be a teaching assistant/ aerial teacher.
  • An interest in doing our apprenticeship / teaching training course.
  • At least 1 year of aerial practice, previous participation in some aerial shows, applicants looked at individually, but some previous aerial experience is required.

Key responsibilities

  • To arrive on time each week for the duration of one term at a time, or each day for a week.
  • To arrive with some pre prepared warm up and cool down exercises.
  • To lead warms ups and cool downs duiring class time, when asked.
  • To support students in the class both with their circus program and as a mentor.
  • To start to learn some aerial rigging inside the studio.
  • To be left for short intervals to supervise the class.
  • To actively learn and engage in proper spotting and health and safety observation.
  • To continually survey the room for risk and assist accordingly.
  • To show and teach certain circus tricks and conditioning under the guidance of the teacher or teaching assistant in charge.
  • To help with space management e.g. cleaning of the studio or chopping wood
  • To help with various circus school related activities.
  • To make one social medal post per day according to our OP.
  • To have hours signed off at the end of each day, and to start to understand TCC admin processes.
  • Opportunity to train in the space, learn are moves in the classes and participate in mini shows.
  • Learn to manage our wood burner safely.

Aerial Teaching Apprenticeship

The time table of the internship will be 3 days a week for a year, 4.15 – 9.15pm twice a week and another 4 hours on a third day for 36 weeks of the year.

The first year of our aerial apprenticeship is unpaid, thou upon completion of the 1st stage/year, the second stage/year can be paid if application for the second year is accepted.
Stage 1: 504 hours of classroom assistance and in person aerial school tasks which will include all of the key responsibilities of a intern, however with a more structured learning pathway and pre defined targets, assessments and goals.
Stage 2: 500 Hours work experience as an Apprentice Aerial teaching Assistant.

  • Practice preparing lesson plans and executing them under supervision .
  • All responsibilities associated with the intern position.
  • To attend all rehearsals for that year for our in house and in tent shows assisting with all aspects involved
  • To self review each day and request feedback according to the OP.
  • To consider all the responsibilities of a teaching assistant and complete all assignments in the apprenticeship teacher training manual.
  • Extra work experience at festivals and events will be offered, and an apprenticeship wage may be offered.
  • To take part in all of our shows that year, assisting with the production.

  • Our Teacher Training Program / Apprenticeship will be priced at £1300 per term or £3100 for the entire year when paid in advance, for the first year for 500 hours, on completion of the first year and all necessary activities a certificate will be awarded.
  • The second year of the apprenticeship will holding the possibility for sub contracted employment on an apprenticeship wage with us, entry in to the second year and the possibility of employment will only be offered at our discretion after full completion of the first year, hours offered could also change.

Aerial Teaching Assistant.

3- 7 hour shifts on a zero hours contract. £9 per hour.
This role will have the opportunity for pay rise, increasing responsibility and promotion to a aerial teacher within our organisation. 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications for this post. 

  • Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools.
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma.
  • Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant Certificate.
  • Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
  • Youth work Experience of Qualifications.
  • Diverse Knowledge of Circus skills.
  1. To prepare at the beginning of each day a lesson plan for all classes that day which must include conditioning, tricks and sequences to deliver as part of our teaching program, this plan must be agreed and signed off by the Head Aerial Teacher 15mins before the first class commences.
  2. The lesson plan must take into account any student preparing for one of our shows to enable them to run their act and prepare in accordance with our OP. Lessons must incorporate check in, warm up, conditioning rule of 3, tricks sequences, activities, mini show, cool down and class review before ending.
  3. To learn rigging within the room to prepare for classes, while instructing the class to clean matts and prepare for the cool down.
  4. To adapt to and follow our developing Operations Policy. 
  5. To assist in the delivery of our training protocol.  
  6. To leave and prepare the studio ready for classes the following day hovering and leaving everything in correct place.
  7. (Matts, cleaning equipment, Ropes, Rigging)
  8. To make one social media post per day of assistant teaching.
  9. To supervise the class with the Head Teacher on the premises, to be supervised and monitored on occasion and potentially at any time during two day to check for compliance, Health and Safty and Quality control.
  10. To leave in the space the completed register and required work form for that day, as well as whatsap a photo of it to the Head Teacher.
  11. To attend monthly supervision to go over Operations policy and review work completed so far.
  12. Take payments for the shop, operate the till, never allowing any products to leave the premises without payment regardless of how small or low cost the product is.
  13. Teach Codified and non-codified aerial technique . Any such non codified technique must be pre approved by the Head Teacher before being incorporated and delivered into the teaching programme.
  14. Explorations of all disciplines of circus.
  15. Attend meetings when required.
  16. Undertake teaching related administrative matters.
  17. Act as mentor for students and provide pastoral care and support in learning and to deal with issues and concerns of students, as a first line support.
  18. Refer students to the appropriate Support or Management should the need arise.
  19. Make sure that all tricks taught in class are properly risk assessed by the manager and delivery method approved in advance to delivery.
  20. To work towards being able to run fluid rehearsals incorporating excellent rigging skills and stage managing skills.
  21. To assist the smooth running of a Temple Cloud Circus Show with ease and complete safety.
  22. Take payments for the shop, operate the till, never allowing any products to leave the premises without payment regardless of how small or low cost the product is.
  23. To take care of and guide interns and apprentices during classes, allowing them to support and help where appropriate.
  24. To make lesson plans and assist in the development of our teaching programme.
  25. To follow rigging instructions vigilantly with the aim to rig the room for lessons and leave room tidy according to the operations policy, making sure everything is checked to be complaint and safe each time.
  26. To be full responsible for the class with out a manager present for sustained periods of time.
  27. To adapt to and follow our developing Operations Policy.
  28. Keep professional boundaries, do not give out personal phone number, or promote external events/classes without explicit consent of management in writing.

Aerial Teacher, Show Development and Circus Instructor.

Aerial Teacher –  Job Title: Aerial Teacher – Temple Cloud Circus
Salary: 400 annual hours. £26,520 (pro rata). (c. £5,100pa) 
Temple Cloud Circus is looking to recruit a compassionate, creative and experienced aerial teacher to join the teaching team.

Working pattern to be agreed with Manager – teaching hours likely be spread across 2 -3 days. Some weekend and evening work may be required to fulfil the requirements of this post.

Occasional work or meetings inside our tent in a close field or other locations at festivals may be required. Temple Cloud Circus was founded 10 years ago by Acupuncturist and body workers Sammy Terry.  Our approach is student lead learning for health and well being. We attract local students mainly youth.

We are developing our teaching courses and delivery methods all the time with strict adherences to health and safety, as aerial is our main discipline. This development is informed by expanding students’ range of knowledge of possible styles of delivery.

Within our premises we also foster effective working partnerships, and are engaged with community events, large scale festivals, offer facility hire and bespoke events packages. Our development over a decade means we now have many adult students across our courses, with 60 young people regularly attending the youth circus and we perform up to 24 shows a year.

Temple Cloud Circus is looking to recruit a passionate, compassionate and experienced aerial teacher to join the small team. The post-holder will take responsibility for the direct delivery of aerial classes, the content of which, should aim to both complement and enhance students’ physical and creative practice as developing aerial circus artists and performers.

Key responsibilities: Teaching all responsibilities of teaching assistant above including the extra responsibilities below.

  1. Work as a member of the teaching team to plan, prepare and teach aerial classes across all classes and to assist in the development of our teaching program, using a range of delivery modes that will complement and enhance students’ physical and artistic development.
  2. To be full responsible for the class with out a manager present in the building.
  3. To be left entirely responsible for the school for up to 2 weeks at a time.
  4. Explorations of all disciplines of circus.
  5. Undertake continuous assessment of student progress and performance. • Contribute a report and the end of term for each student
  6. Contribute to curriculum development and course review, Submitting the lesson plans for the term 2 weeks before the term starts.
  7. Where appropriate, involvement in student induction, tasters and 121’s.
  8. Contribute to and participate in quality and other administrative reviews.
  9. Undertake academic administration duties such as attendance taking, reporting, project management, when required.

Essential / Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • REQUIRED
  • Educated to degree level in dance or related subject, or relevant professional experience.
  • Teaching qualification and or youth work qualification.
  • High level of aerial circus skills.
  • Experience of, and ability to teach a range of codified and non-codified aerial styles – which may includes, trapeze, silks, aerial rope, aerial loop, hand balancing, straps, dance choreography.
  • Ability to teach/adapt teaching material to a range of levels and abilities
  • Knowledge of circus skills.
  • Ability to plan own workload and manage time efficiently
  • Proven ability to foster and maintain professional relationships and effectively resolve tensions and difficulties in a positive manner.
  • Understanding of student support needs, safeguarding and duty of care. Able to provide guidance, signposting to student support lead.
  • Ability to communicate new and complex information effectively, both verbally and in writing, engaging the interest and enthusiasm of learners • A flexible approach to work
  • Strong presentation skill
  • Confident IT skills

PREFERABLE

  • Previous experience of teaching and assessing work at NVQ level
  • Ability to teach acrobatic, Handstands, tumbling, Hoola Hoop, Trapeze, Silks, Loop, Rope, Straps, Any Aerial and and other circus skills.
  • Experience of working with students with additional learning needs
  • Creative approaches and ideas for delivery

A minimum of 36 full days assistant teaching must have been completed with in a time frame of 1 year. 36 daily sheets must have been fully competed with all tasks completedSupervision needs to have been clear of any transgressions from the operations policy for a minimum of 2 terms (24 weeks), showing full competence to carry our roles and responsibilities with full understanding of what is requested and required for the job role. To be promoted to a Aerial Teacher, applicants need to have completed two years successfully and received a pay rise, they need to apply in writing addressing how they will be able to contribute and for fill all the Roles and Responsibilities required, including any Development or training they may require or working towards in order to for fill the role.
